Assalamu Alaikum Everyone,
I hope this message finds you well today.
Reflecting on the past two years as Principal of Iqra School, I am filled with immense gratitude for how warm, welcoming, and dedicated this community continues to be. Since joining in Term Three two years ago, following a wonderful transition alongside Dr. Stephen Kendall-Jones, it has been an absolute privilege to lead and grow alongside our incredible students, hard-working teachers, specialized staff, and supportive Board of Trustees.
Drawing on my two decades of experience in educational leadership—including my time at ACG Sunderland School and St. Cuthbert’s College—my passion for primary education, commitment to inclusivity, and dedication to raising student progress remain at the heart of everything I do. Over these past two years, it has been immensely rewarding to see our shared values in action and to watch our students thrive within the unique special character that makes Iqra School so extraordinary.
Thank you to all our parents, caregivers, and community members for your ongoing support, engagement, and collaboration. Together, we continue to cultivate a nurturing, respectful, and enriching environment where every student can succeed.
As always, my door is open—please feel free to pop in and say hello when you are next at the school!
Kind regards,
Leanne Chartrand

Dear Parents,
We are writing to clarify our stance regarding birthday celebrations during school hours. As part of our commitment to preserving the unique ethos and values of our school, we do not host or support individual birthday celebrations, including bringing cakes, treats, or gifts to class.
Our special character emphasizes:
Inclusivity and Unity: Ensuring all students feel equally valued every day, without comparisons or financial pressures surrounding celebrations.
Focus on Our Shared Mission: Maintaining an environment dedicated fully to our core educational and spiritual values during class time.
Simplicity and Stewardship: Encouraging a humble, shared approach to daily life within our learning community.
We completely understand that birthdays are meaningful family occasions, and families may choose to celebrate these personal milestones at home with loved ones.
Thank you for your understanding, partnership, and ongoing support in honoring the special character that makes our community unique.
Kind regards,
Leanne Chartrand
Principal
Dear Parents and Whānau,
At Iqra School, we are committed to supporting the overall well-being and development of our students.
As part of our consultation with our school community, we are seeking your feedback on the Health Curriculum at Iqra School.
Iqra School will deliver a Health Education programme based on the New Zealand Curriculum, while reflecting and upholding the school’s Islamic special character and values.
The programme aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to:
Teachers will use a range of age-appropriate teaching strategies to engage students and develop key competencies. Where appropriate, Health Education will also be integrated with other areas of the New Zealand Curriculum.
Your feedback is important to us. It will help us further develop a strong Health Education programme that supports our students’ well-being, builds important life skills and attitudes, and is delivered within the principles and values taught to us by Islam.
We kindly ask parents and whānau to take a few minutes to complete the Health Survey 2026 and share your views.
