Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Assalamu Alaikum Everyone.

I hope this message finds you well today. I am delighted to be appointed the new Principal of Iqra School starting Term Three. I have already been so welcomed to the school by wonderful staff and students who have gone out of their way to make sure I am well supported here at Iqra School. I have taught over two decades in a number of roles in educational leadership, including ACG Sunderland School and St. Cuthbert’s College. I have a passion for primary education, a commitment to inclusivity and a dedication to fostering a collaborative learning environment. I have gained invaluable experience raising students’ progress and improving outcomes for students. My values align seamlessly with the mission of Iqra School and I am eager to begin work alongside specialised staff, hard working teachers and wonderful students. The Board of Trustees have enabled me to have a wonderful transition with Dr. Stephen Kendall-Jones, and I am grateful for the smooth handover that has transpired.

It is a privilege and humbling to become part of the Iqra School community amongst the special character that only Iqra School can bring. Thank you so much for all the support already shown me. I am excited to start a new chapter here at Iqra School. Your engagement and cooperation are invaluable to me as we continue to cultivate a nurturing, respectful and enriching environment for all our students. Please pop in and say hello when you are next at Iqra School!

Kind regards,

Leanne Chartrand

Senior Boys Soccer Make-Up Sessions
3 Jun 2026

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Please note that Senior Boys Soccer students will have two soccer sessions each week for this week and next week as make-up sessions.

The sessions will be held on:

-Tuesday and Friday, 5 June 2026 (this week)
-Tuesday and Friday, 12 June 2026 (next week)

The sessions will be held in the lower court on Friday, and upper court on Tuesday.

These additional sessions are being provided because there will be no Senior Soccer sessions after 12 June, as the coach will be overseas. The Friday sessions have been scheduled to make up for the missed sessions during this period.

Please ensure your child comes prepared for soccer on both days with appropriate sports clothing, footwear, and a water bottle.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

RE. Upcoming Life Education Trust & Harold Visit
3 Jun 2026

3.6.26

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

RE.  Upcoming Life Education Trust & Harold Visit

Life Education Trust programmes provides fantastic, interactive health and wellbeing programmes tailored to our tamariki.  In primary and intermediate schools, the specialist health teachers provide engaging and memorable lessons through the Healthy Harold Programme. Life Education Trust visits more than 1400 schools and kura each year in their unique mobile classroom, where students learn about friendships, their identity, food and nutrition, and helpful and harmful substances. They take a co-design approach, working with schools to ensure each lesson meets the unique needs of their community.

Iqra School is excited to let you know that our school will be visiting the Life Education Trust mobile classroom here at Iqra School.  The sessions are for Year 1-8. The sessions will be starting on Monday 15 June and finishing on Tuesday 23 June 2026.

During their sessions, students will be exploring:

●     Friendships and communities, resilience, and nutrition.

●     Making positive, healthy choices to stay safe and well.

There might be a special visit to the Junior Assembly on Wednesday 17 June  from everyone’s favourite giraffe, Harold.

These engaging lessons are designed to align with the New Zealand Curriculum. We would love for you to ask your tamariki about what they learn from Life Education Trust educator!

As well on Friday 19 June 2026 schools nationwide in Year 1-5 are invited to dress with a yellow accessory to celebrate Harold and raise funds to support their local Life Education Trust. The children in Year 1-5 wear their Iqra School uniform but may come with a yellow accessory on the day. Examples of accessories might be a yellow: scarf, hat, socks, wristband, hair tie, belt, etc. Please bring a gold coin on the day to raise funds and support Life Education to empower tamariki to make positive choices for their health and wellbeing through the Healthy Harold programme.

Join a nationwide initiative to promote wellbeing education and support Life Education’s work with tamariki and rangatahi in our community.  We are excited for engaging lessons helping our students learn about health and wellbeing.

If you would like to know more about the programme, you can visit the Life Education Trust website
